PhD student position in Plastics Recycling

PhD student position in Plastics Recycling

Arbetsbeskrivning

The Department of Industrial and Materials Science (IMS) offers a PhD student position at an established research division, providing an excellent opportunity to learn and gain experiences in a positive surrounding. On an every-day-basis, you will work in cooperation with several research students under the guidance of senior research fellows. The research project on plastics recycling will provide you with an opportunity to contribute to solutions in a field of high concern in society.

Project description
You will work on Polymeric Materials, more precisely on materials recycling of plastics packaging waste. The research will generally aim at understanding how to make better use of the plastics materials and what is required of the materials for recycling purposes. The research problems will specifically concern how to obtain appropriate compositions, how to transform into useful material and how to adjust large scale melt-processing for manufacturing purposes. A further scientific problem will be to produce an appropriate material structure allowing for useful functional properties of products produced. The overall aim is to contribute to an increased plastics materials recycling in society. The research project will be funded by Plastkretsen ABs Stiftelse för forskning.

You will work in the polymeric material team at the Division of Engineering Materials at IMS. The research activities at the division span from basic research on nano-structural materials to product- and process related issues within materials and manufacturing technology. The research is carried out in close collaboration with national and international industries and universities. Our graduate as well as undergraduate education is organized in a wide range of courses, involving three masters' programs and three research schools.

Major responsibilities
The research indicated above will be the main task for the candidate. The PhD education also comprises one year of advanced courses. The candidate is expected to take an active part in the teaching duties at the department. The research results will be disseminated in both Swedish and English. Good skills in both writing and speaking these languages are therefore valuable.

Contract terms
Full-time temporary employment. The position is limited to a maximum of five years.

Qualifications
The candidate should be interested in both experimental and theoretical work. We believe that a suitable background is M Sc corresponding to at least 240 higher education credits in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering or Engineering Physics (or similar education). Good knowledge in polymer science is required.
