Arbetsbeskrivning
The ERC funded project “Electrical Modulation of Elastic Moduli" has the goal to develop new concepts for stimuli-responsive materials and fibres that can be used for the realization of new types of electronic textile devices.
A PhD student position is available in the research group of Christian Müller at the Department of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering of Chalmers University of Technology. We are looking for a highly motivated student who will use conjugated polymers to develop new types of stimuli-responsive fibers and textile devices. Focus will be on the use of molecular doping to tune the stiffness and stretchability.
You will work closely with several postdocs and PhD students in our group and together study the mechanical and electrical properties of different types of molecularly doped conjugated polymers and polymer fibres. There will be the opportunity to travel and visit the labs at other universities.
Information about the research
The Müller Research Group focuses on the physical chemistry and materials science of organic semiconductors, polymer blends and composites, and develops new plastic materials for use in the fields of wearable electronics and energy technology. All research is conducted in co-operation with other universities/institutes and/or industry. Presently, the group consists of 1 Professor, 4 Postdocs and 8 PhD students.
Major responsibilities
The majority of your working time is devoted to your own research, in collaboration with postdocs and students at Chalmers, as well as external collaborators in academia and industry. As a PhD student you are expected to develop your own ideas and communicate scientific results orally as well as in writing. In addition, 10 percent of your time will be dedicated to departmental duties, especially teaching on the undergraduate level.
Qualifications
To qualify as a PhD student, you must have a master's level degree in Chemistry, Materials Science or equivalent (or be in the process of completing a Master’s degree). Experience with molecular doping and organic electronics is required; experience with polymer science is a merit. Due to the interdisciplinary nature of the work, the candidate is expected to have excellent collaboration skills. A very good capability of communicating scientific results in English, both orally and in writing is required.
Contract terms
Full-time temporary employment. The position is limited to a maximum of four years of full-time research studies.
