The Department of Statistics http://www.stat.umu.se has openings for two PhD student positions within two multidisciplinary projects involving statisticians as well as medical and social scientists.Both projects, briefly described below, make use of register data to look at child health within a socioeconomic context.The PhD candidates are expected to collaborate with the members of the respective teams while developing relevant statistical methods within the department main research profile "Analysis of large datasets: models and methods for analyses with administrative registers and longitudinal studies". The successful candidates are expected to enter the PhD program on September 1, 2009. Project 1: Monitoring and evaluation of a child health intervention program (Ref.No.313-431-09).The PhD candidate will be involved in collaborative research within the research program "Microdata research on childhood for lifelong health and welfare", which is funded by the Swedish Research Council, through the Swedish Initiative for research on Microdata in the Social and Medical Sciences (SIMSAM).In particular, the PhD candidate will work on developing methods using register and survey data with the aim to monitor and evaluate a child health intervention program. Project 2: Studies based on the linkage between the Swedish childhood diabetes register and socioeconomics registers (Ref.No.313-434-09).The PhD candidate will work within a research team working around the Swedish childhood diabetes register.For instance, the project will look at socioeconomics risk factors of type I diabetes and/or at the effect of getting diabetes on socioeconomics outcomes related to education and employment.Moreover, the PhD student will also work at developing novel methods to analyze register data.
