Information about the research/the project/the division
Our group developed the first prosthetic arm connected to the user's skeleton, nerves and muscles. This technology allows for realiable and long-term estable neural control and sensory feedback ("feeling) of artificial arms. We are now developing a similar technology for lower limb amputations. We aim to use neural information to intuitively control a prosthetic leg, this includes decoding of motor volition and artificially induced somatosensory feedback.
Major responsibilities
Development and implementation of control strategies. Development of hardware and software. Experimental design and implementation. Results analysis and publication in scientific journals. Technology development, verification, and implementation. Multi-disiplinary collaboration internally and with national and internaitonal collaborators in engineering and medicine.
You are expected to develop your own scientific concepts and communicate the results of your research verbally and in writing, both in Swedish and in English. The position generally also includes teaching on Chalmers' undergraduate level or performing other duties corresponding to 20 per cent of working hours.
Position summary
Full-time temporary employment. The position is limited to a maximum of five years.
Qualifications
We are looking for you with experience developing electronic and control systems. We will consider it meritous if you have experience working with prosthetics, exo-skeletons, decoding of motor volition, neurostimulation, bionics, or experimental design. For you to qualify as a PhD student, you must have a master's level degree corresponding to at least 240 higher education credits in electronics, mechatronics or relevant fields.
The position requires sound verbal and written communication skills in English. Swedish is not a requirement but if you have an interest in learning Swedish, Chalmers offers Swedish courses.
