Information about the division
The CSE department is strongly international, with approximately 80 faculty and 70 PhD students from 30 countries. The department is integrated with University of Gothenburg and Chalmers University of Technology. The position is placed in the Software Engineering (SE) Division at the department, with Chalmers University of Technology as the employer. Within the SE division, research ranges from software architecture, requirements, process improvement and change management, human factors, model-driven software development, component-based software engineering, agile processes, to verification and validation. The department includes additional strong groups within related fields of CSE; see http://www.chalmers.se/cse/EN for an overview.
The research of the PhD position will be in the area of model-based and component-based software engineering for embedded systems, specifically software deployment on heterogeneous platform, i.e. a platform that has different processing units, such as multicore CPUs, GPUs, and FPGA. The goal is to develop theories, methods, and tools for optimization of mapping and deploying software on different processing units. The majority of the PhD students’ working time is devoted to the research studies. A PhD student is also expected to develop own ideas and communicate scientific results orally as well as in written form. The work will also include cooperation with industry. In addition, the positions will normally include 20% departmental work, mostly teaching duties. Staying abroad for a 3-6 month visit at a collaborating foreign university is possible.
Major responsibilities
Your major responsibilities as PhD student is to pursue your own doctoral studies. You are expected to develop your own scientific concepts and communicate the results of your research verbally and in writing, both in English. The position generally also includes teaching on Chalmers' undergraduate level or performing other duties corresponding to 20 percent of working hours.
Position summary
Full-time temporary employment. The position is limited to a maximum of five years.
Qualifications
To qualify as a PhD student, you must have a master's level degree corresponding to at least 240 higher education credits in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or in a related discipline.
