Arbetsbeskrivning
Our plant breeding focuses on cereals, forage crops, potatoes and pulses and forms the first link in the chain from field to fork. By developing varieties adapted to all parts of Sweden and beyond, we assist farmers in meeting the challenges posed by climate change and new consumer demands. We ensure that our customers have access to the best possible varieties, either from our own breeding programs or through in-licensing.
This is what you will do
As Plant Breeder/Population Improvement you will develop and manage the implementation of prediction models for relevant traits, based mainly on genomic data, for direct use in our various crop breeding programs. You will be responsible for optimizing species-specific breeding pipelines for early selection in our breeding programs. Part of your work will be carried out as specific projects, either internal or in cooperation with external research groups or companies.
You will be a part of the plant breeding department’s population improvement group, a newly formed group of plant breeders/quantitative geneticists and breeding assistants. The group handles early genomic-based selection and rapid cycling strategies in order to deliver an optimal pool of selection candidates to be evaluated by our Variety Development group in the field. Together, both groups work to ensure that Lantmännen has a market-leading variety portfolio.
