Plant pathologist - Sugar Beet
DLF Beet Seed har mer än en 100-årig historia av att bedriva forskning och förädling av sockerbetssorter baserat i Sverige och Danmark. DLF Beet Seed grundades i sin nuvarande konstellation den 1 oktober 2017 och är idag en strategisk affärsenhet i DLF-koncernen, ett globalt fröföretag med huvudkontor i Danmark med cirka 2000 anställda i 20-talet länder. Cirka 300 anställda arbetar inom enheten som är dedikerad till sockerbetsverksamheten med förädling, utsädesproduktion och försäljning. Landskrona är centrum för forsknings- och utvecklingsverksamheten i DLF Beet Seed med cirka 80 anställda (varav cirka 13 arbetar i Falkenberg) och går under namnet DLF Beet Seed Research AB. Varumärkena (Hilleshög och Maribo) marknadsförs separat i mer än 35 länder.
ROLE Description:
The role holder needs to have deep knowledge and experience in plant pathology and be able to develop and implement test methods in any crops. It is a diverse role where the plant pathologist needs to be a flexible person, easy to collaborate with and willing to do routine work as well as have the competence and energy to drive and be responsible for research projects.
The plant pathologist will:
· Develop and drive best practices for sugar beet pathology tests globally (efficient operations, quality of lab protocols and work instruction).
· Drive and take practical part in backcross projects targeting introduction of resistance in elite material.
· Provide technical support and expertise within the sugar beet pathology area globally. It means to be a specialists on pests and diseases and assist colleagues in breeding, marketing, product management, field production, greenhouse etc.
· Lead or participate in the design and planning of pathology projects, including engaging into external collaborations where appropriate.
· Take part and carry out pathology test at DLF Beet seed.
· Interact with research institutions, universities etc. in the field of plant pathology and entomology
· Be a good teacher and supervisor for the technical staff. Supervise the team in development and implementation of screening systems for different pests and diseases
· Ensure the adoption of new technologies and drive innovation.
· Follow scientific evolution and participate in international exchange of research information within plant pathology, through international meetings, conferences, publications etc.
Desired Knowledge and competences:
· Demonstrated knowledge in plant pathology/entomology and knowledge of crop specific diseases and pests: ideally a PhD degree in a scientific discipline within Plant microbe interactions, typically Plant Pathology, Entomology, Virology, Molecular Plant Pathology, or equivalent with significant work experience and achievement.
· Understanding of the processes in plant breeding
· Basic knowledge in biology and agronomy
Critical skills
· Communicate fluently in Swedish and English (verbal and written), good knowledge in a German and/or French is appreciated
· At least 6 years working experience in plant pathology or entomology preferably with experience in immunology and molecular biology techniques.
· Good team working skills and potential to give guidance to others
· Ability to work effectively in diverse project teams
· Excellent knowledge sharing with team and stakeholders
· Excellent organization, communication, and computer skills.
· Capacity to innovate in a focused and product-oriented manner.
· Interest in and awareness of the market context of a commercial seed business.
· Ability to understand and communicate complex instructions.
· Ability to acquire new skills in short time
· Ability to travel internationally and nationally
