Political Officer, Chancery Section, British Embassy
The British Embassy is responsible for representing and furthering British interests in Sweden, promoting good relations between Britain and Sweden and fostering a modern and dynamic image of Britain. It does this through developing and maintaining extensive contacts with people at all levels in Swedish society.
Duties and Responsibilities
This will be a varied and dynamic job focussing on policy analysis and networking, promoting the UK's policy dialogue with Sweden, and building interest in, and understanding of Sweden's fast-moving policy and political scene. You will join the Embassy political team as Sweden and the UK prepare for the Swedish EU Presidency in 2009. You will:
. Monitor and analyse policy developments in Sweden and provide high quality reporting to an intelligent and interested audience of policy specialists in the UK. Your areas of topical interest might include integration, migration, communities and other social issues of relevance to both countries;
. Develop and maintain contacts with policymakers and opinion-formers in Sweden, and with those who shape the debate on current issues;
. Assist in preparations for the Swedish EU Presidency, helping to build bridges between policymakers and providing high quality policy analysis and reporting to London.
Skills and Experience Required
Essential:
. Proven experience in policy work, including the demonstration of strong analytical skills
. Excellent written and spoken communication skills including fluent English and Swedish.
Highly desirable
. Excellent organisational skills and an ability to prioritise tasks and work to deadlines.
. Good knowledge of Swedish political and governmental system, and a broad range of contacts within Swedish society.
. Good networking skills and aptitude for providing a customer driven service.
. Good team working skills as well as the ability to work with minimum supervision.
The job will suit a candidate with relevant work experience, who is looking to develop their skills in a busy, friendly and stimulating environment.
This is a full time appointment. Employment will be subject to security clearance.
