Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences Department of Chemistry, Uppsala Post Doc in molecular soil biogeochemistry including mass spectrometry imaging SLU develops the understanding and sustainable use of biological natural resources. This is achieved through research, teaching, environmental monitoring and assessment and information extension.SLU has 3 000 employees, 4 200 undergraduate and postgraduate students.Main campuses are located at Alnarp, Skara, Uppsala and Umeå.www.slu.se We are looking for a post-doctoral researcher within the project "Cool soils in a changing climate - Implications for carbon and nitrogen cycling".This position will be based at the Department of Chemistry, but the holder of this position is expected to collaborate with staff at the Departments of Soil & Environment and Forest Mycology & Pathology, SLU Uppsala, Sweden. Two year fulltime appointment. The aim of this project is to improve our fundamental understanding of the regulation of decomposition processes at soil temperatures prevalent in temperate ecosystems during current winter and under potential future climate scenarios. The objective of this project is to unravel the complexity of soils and the interactions of its components in a series of spatially-referenced experiments at the microcosm scale. This will be achieved by the use of novel combinations of functional diversity profiling and phenotypic structure of the microbial community techniques, stable isotope chemistry and some of the latest technologies in microscopy. The goal is to improve our mechanistic understanding of carbon and nitrogen processes at low temperatures to inform mechanistic soil organic matter models. The starting date is as soon as possible.Qualifications: The applicant should hold a PhD in soil science or equivalent within the last three years. The candidate for this position should have a broad knowledge of soil science, specifically in soil biogeochemistry.Any experience in the use of micro-analytical techniques and/or visualization imaging is considered as a merit. It is important that the applicant has good skills in cooperation and international networking as well as the capacity to pursue her/his own research ideas. The university applies individual salary negotiations.SLU is an equal opportunity employer. The application should be written in English.Your application should contain a short statement of your research profile (max.1 page), short research proposal in relation to this position (max.2 pages), Curriculum Vitae including your publication list, name and contact details of two reference persons and other supporting documents. Please submit your application to the Registrar of SLU, P.O.
