POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT Position: Post-doc (1 year, in the area of international genetic evaluations of dairy cattle) Location: Interbull Centre, Dept.of Animal Breeding and Genetics, Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences, Uppsala, Sweden.Uppsala is situated only 30 minutes north of Arlanda international airport and 45 minutes north of Stockholm, the capital of Sweden.It is one of the major university cities in Sweden and offers an attractive mix of history, culture, modern hi-tech industry and a Nordic nature.Background: Interbull, a permanent sub-committee of the International Committee for Animal Recording, is a professional organisation offering international genetic evaluations and other services to its members in more than 30 countries worldwide.Interbull plans are realised at its operational unit, the Interbull Centre, based under contract at the Dept.of Animal Breeding and Genetics, Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU).The Interbull Centre is presently conducting, on its own or in collaboration with its international partners, international genetic evaluations for production, conformation, udder health, longevity, and calving traits in dairy cattle.International genetic evaluations for female fertility are under way.Due to temporary leaves of personnel at the Interbull Centre further staff is required. Description: The holder of the position will participate in ongoing and future research activities in the area of international genetic evaluations with the aim to support and improve international evaluation methods.The incumbent will cooperate with other personnel at the Interbull Centre and will also participate in research projects in cooperation with other research institutes worldwide.Qualification: Postgraduate degree in animal breeding/quantitative genetics and relevant research experience.Candidates are expected to be up-to-date with current developments and techniques in the areas of genetic parameter estimation, prediction of breeding values, genetic evaluation systems and computer simulations; strong programming skills and experience with large data analysis will be highly desirable.Experience in the dairy cattle sector will be considered an asset.Salary: Commensurate with qualifications and experience.Appointment: 1 year.The holder will be an employee at the SLU, or, alternatively, a position/sabbatical jointly appointed with another organisation.Starting time: As soon as possible.Application: The application should be labelled with ref.nr 2241/06.
