Post doc in enviromental microbiology

Arbetsbeskrivning

Welcome to Linnaeus University! A place for knowledge, ideas and development. For growth potential and a belief in the future. In Småland and in the world.

The Department of Biology and Environmental Science is part of the Faculty of Health and Life Sciences.
The research activities within this multidisciplinary department include the areas of aquatic ecology, cell and organism biology, evolutionary biology, microbiology, environmental science and environmental engineering as well as zoonotic ecology.

The research project will investigate how microorganisms adapt to extreme environments such as low pH, the deep biosphere, or anaerobic marine sediments. The project will use high throughput nucleic acid sequencing to link the microorganisms present, their metabolic capabilities, and the processes they carry out in response to changing environmental conditions and how this affects nutrient fluxes.

Qualification requirements for the position are a PhD in environmental microbiology and knowledge of handling large ‘omics’ data sets.

Other assessment grounds that would place the candidate at an advantage include documented evidence of research experience in acidophiles, the deep biosphere, or anaerobic sediments as well as knowledge in bioinformatics analysis of ‘omics’ sequencing data. In addition, the Post Doc should have a high proficiency in written and spoken English, be able to solve problems, and have the ability to work independently as well as interact well in a research group.

Terms of employment:
The position will be full time for 12 months, with good opportunities to be extended.
