Arbetsbeskrivning
The Systems Engineering Design group at the Department of Industrial and Materials Science now has an open Post Doc position in Systems Engineering Design. You will be a central researcher with the main responsibility to develop and demonstrate research based methods onto industrial use cases together with industrial partners and fellow researchers.
The department and the division
The Systems Engineering Design (SED) Group, is one of three research groups at the division of Product Development, and part of the Wingquist Laboratory. The SED group research focus is on design and development of complex products in close collaboration with industrial partners, nationally and internationally. Topics include development methodologies such as Set Based Concurrent Engineering and Knowledge Engineering, development of methods and tools for platform based development and value driven design. The research group is led by Professor Ola Isaksson and has presently 7 full time senior staff (2 professors) and 9 PhD students. The research group addresses highly interdisciplinary challenges and is well established both scientifically and industrially, with several industrial PhD students and associates senior researchers.
The main competencies at the Department of Industrial and Materials Science are found in the areas of: Human-Technology Interaction | Form and Function | Modeling and Simulation | Product Development | Material | Production and in the interaction between these areas. The research develops the industrial process, from need to finished product while creating added value. To combine skills throughout the whole chain distinguishes the department both nationally and internationally. Here we gather internationally prominent researchers, in dynamic and outstanding research environments, as well as in national and international research networks.
Project desription
We are launching several new national and European projects, and seek a Post Doc researcher who wants to work with applying research results together with industrial partners in product development. In particular to develop engineering and/or Information systems support when industry transforms into providing next generation products and solutions. The research is about understanding the emerging needs, as industry faces new, disruptive technologies (electrification, additive manufacturing and more) while digitalisation bring new ability to model, evaluate, connect and visualise situations during design and product development.
The Post Doc position primarily addresses the ability to define and evaluate multi-disciplinary engineering design problems across the life cycle of products. The ability to apply and demonstrate the use and application of such decision support in complex value chains is important as well, where interests, skills and experience in digital data analyics as well as information management and processing will be necessary to advance knowledge.
As a Post Doc researcher you will be leading initiatives both together with industrial partners and with fellow researchers and research students at Chalmers and with academic partners. Your research will result in demonstrations of new methods and tools that enable industry to adapt and deploy new research-based results from different disciplines, ranging from additive manufacturing technologies to novel sustainable product technologies (electrification and circular economy based design solutions). The research expects also to result in high impact knowledge contributions, advancing the core areas of systems engineering design. A part of the position is devoted to the development and establishment of our Systems Engineering Design laboratory, where we develop, test and demonstrate our results.
As a Post Doc, 10-20% of the position includes teaching and/or supervision duties in relation to your field of expertise.
Contract terms
Full-time temporary employment. The position is limited to a maximum of two years (1+1).
