Post-doc position (18 months) in experimental plankton ecology reference number 315-532-09 The Department of Ecology and Environmental Science has about 170 members including including 50 PhD students. For more information see the department's homepage: www.emg.umu.se/en.See also www.umea.se for a general presentation of Umeå and the University. We are looking for a post-doc to be involved in laboratory and mesocosm experiments designed to study the impact of physical environmental drivers and food web composition on plankton dynamics.Specifically, we are interested in how trophic interactions involving copepods and their protist prey (phytoplankton, microzooplankton) modulate the impact of water temperature, light and nutrient input on population dynamics and the transfer of energy and nutrients through the food web.The post-doc will be in charge of planning and managing experiments in a hi-tech, indoor mesocosm facility and will co-ordinate the subsequent data analysis. The studies may be performed using freshwater or marine plankton. We are looking for a person with a strong background in experimental plankton ecology.Experience with the organization and co-ordination of large-scale mesocosm experiments, preferentially performed in a controlled indoor facility and involving multiple researchers, is considered a great advantage. An important additional merit is past experience with the study of phytoplankton, microzooplankton and, most critically, copepods. To qualify for the position you should have a PhD degree or equivalent, preferably not more than three years old.Your application, in English, must include a short summary (max 1 page) of your previous experience, a short description (max.1 page) of how you could contribute to the research, a curriculum vitae with a list of publications, and names and contact details of two references. For further information, please contact Prof.Documents sent electronically should be in MS Word or PDF format. We look forward to receiving your application!
