Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences Department of Animal Environment and Health Post-Doc position "Emotions in animals" The aim of the Department of Animal Environment and Health is to increase knowledge about the relationship between the housing and management of animals and their health, behaviour and welfare.The department has a strong international reputation and is active in research, teaching and advisory work in these areas.It is based in Skara, in the western part of Sweden, but the Section of Ethology and Welfare is located both in Skara and in Uppsala.A post-doc position is available for a period of one year full time, with opportunity for an extension. We are looking for a postdoctoral researcher in animal behavior and welfare.The aim is to address the role of emotions in animals and in particular the role of positive affective states in animal welfare.The project is multidisciplinary involving behavioral, physiological and neurobiological measurements and is directed towards farm and companion animals.The person will be responsible for all aspects of experimental design as well as for handling the animals.In addition to the above research tasks the successful postdoctoral researcher will be expected to become involved in student projects and to give some lectures within their area of expertise. Qualifications.A biology, animal science or veterinary PhD degree, related to animal behavior and welfare.Documented knowledge of a wide range of experimental behavioural methodologies, such as cognitive bias, positive-negative contrast, as well as physiological methods such as EEG and ECG is a required, as well as a good working knowledge of statistics.Experience supervising students is also a merit. To be appointed as a Post doc, applicant should have been awarded their Ph.D degree no more than three years ago at the time of application. SLU is an equal opportunity employer.
