Post-doc position in Chemometrics and Computational Biology at Computational Life Science Cluster (CLiC) The overall goal of FuncFiber http://www.funcfiber.se is to establish the basis for wood fiber improvement by unravelling the function of genes underlying the wood forming process in Poplar trees.Within this project, more than 2000 transgenic poplar trees will soon be characterised using a number of complementary bioanalytical platforms that reflect different physical and chemical characterizations. The techniques can be divided into three main classes; 1.High-throughput profiling (e.g.FTIR, NIR, PyMS spectroscopy) 2.Semi-throughput profiling (e.g.metabolomics and microarray technology) 3.Low-throughput profiling (e.g.This overwhelming size and complexity of the advanced profiling technologies have driven biology towards the adoption of computational and statistical methods. We are now looking for an excellent postdoctoral candidate with background in chemometrics or computational biology to preprocess, analyze, model and visualize these large amounts of data. The research will be conducted in an interdisciplinary environment where statistical modeling and experimental biology are seamlessly integrated. The successful candidate will work in a truly multi-disciplinary environment consisting of three centers, FuncFiber, UPSC http://www.upsc.se and Computational Life Science Cluster, CLiC http://www.kbc.umu.se/clic at Umeå University.CLiC is an ongoing effort to further stimulate and advance computer based modeling, tools and strategies in close interaction with experimental sciences.Qualifications: The successful candidate should have a Ph.D.in Chemometrics, Bioinformatics, Computational Biology or relevant discipline. The degree should preferably not be more than three years old.The candidate also needs to be skilled in both oral and written communication in English, be able to work independently as well as in collaboration with others, and have a genuine interest in working with computers and programming, e.g.in Matlab or R. Experiences with databases and working on plant biology data are of merit. The position is full-time and will be granted for a period 1+1 years, starting as soon as possible. The salary will be based on your individual qualifications.Application: The application should contain a CV, including academic grades, a copy of selected publications, two personal references along with a personal letter of one A4 sheet describing yourself and why you apply for this position.Documents sent electronically should be in MS Word or PDF format.Documents sent electronically should be in MS Word or PDF format.
