Umeå University - with its 29,000 students and over 4,000 employees - is an organisation in constant change and development. The university's researchers carry out excellence within several areas of research, and many of them are among the world's elite. We are one of Sweden's largest providers of education and offer a broad and attractive range of courses and programmes. Our campus constitutes an inspiring environment for everyone that studies and works here.We wish to co-operate with companies and organisations throughout the Umeå region and all over the world.Post Doc Position in Neural Developmental Biology at Umeå Centre for Molecular Medicine (UCMM).UCMM is an interdisciplinary research centre using basic research approaches to study areas of biological and medical relevance.See http://www.ucmm.umu.se. The position is for two years.Admission as soon as possible after agreement. Neural stem cells proliferate and give rise to progenitor cells, which later will differentiate into mature post-mitotic neurons. This process, called neurogenesis, persists within the olfactory epithelium throughout life.Today, there is a lack of knowledge of the interactions of extracellular signals necessary to induce precursor cells to give rise to appropriate types of neurons. Our research aims to understand the molecular mechanisms that control the progression of stem and progenitor cells in the olfactory epithelium to olfactory sensory neurons. We will use the knowledge of the interplay of signaling molecules to direct the generation of specific neurons from embryonic stem cells.See http://www.ucmm.umu.se/research/lena/index.html.The studies will include classical developmental biology and molecular genetic methods using in vitro and in vivo chick embryo assays.Besides research activities within the lab, the successful applicant will participate in the supervision and training of junior staff members. The ideal candidate will have obtained a Ph.D.in cell/molecular biology or developmental biology.Your PhD should not be older than three years.A thorough theoretical and practical grounding in developmental biology, molecular and cell biology is required. The applicant should be proficient in written and spoken English and have good organizational, record keeping and problem solving skills. A completed application for the position should include: 1.A single page (A4) describing your research interest, experience and suitability for the position.2.Methods that you control 3.Curriculum Vitae with publication list 4.Names and contact information of 2 referees together with copies of relevant qualifications. For further information, please contact Dr. Applications will be discarded or, if the applicant so wishes, returned two years after the position has been filled.Documents sent electronically should be in MS Word or PDF format.
