Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences Department of Plant Breeding and Biotechnology Faculty of Landscape Planning, Horticulture and Agricultural Sciences, Alnarp, Sweden Post-doc position placed at CIMMYT in Mexico SLU invites applicants for the following one-year Post-doc position: SLU-CGIAR Collaboration on "New genetic materials for adaptation in wheat improvement" CIMMYT and ICARDA are international agricultural research centers under the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research, CGIAR (www.cgiar.org), with focus on developing countries.SLU has recently financed a number of projects for strengthening the cooperation with the CGIAR institutes.The Department of Plant Breeding and Biotechnology has got funding for cooperation with the International Wheat and Maize Improvement Center, CIMMYT (www.cimmyt.org) in Mexico and the International Center for Agricultural Research in Dry Areas, ICARDA (www.icarda.org) in Syria.CIMMYT is specialized in wheat and maize improvement.The project title is "New genetic materials for adaptation in wheat improvement".The project includes a one year post-doc position.The position is fully financed by SLU for one year.The holder will be employed by SLU and placed at the CIMMYT headquarters in Mexico.The over all purpose of the suggested project is to improve the possibilities to adapt wheat to expected global changes in climate.Rye has a different and broader adaptation to biotic and abiotic stresses than wheat.The task is to analyze rye materials and wheat lines with different genetic transfers from rye for the presence of adaptive traits interesting for widening the adaptation of bread wheat.Different disease and pest resistances, weed competing ability and reaction to abiotic factors like micro nutrient deficiency will be investigated.The studies also include assessment of genetic diversity in different rye materials. The applicants should hold a PhD, not older than three years, in genetics, plant physiology, plant pathology or equivalent.Candidates for this position should have good knowledge of plant breeding including molecular aspects and be fluent in English and good in scientific writing.
