Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences Department of Urban and Rural Development, Uppsala Post doc researcher in Rural Development SLU develops knowledge about natural resources as well as social systems - everything that lives and grows.At SLU we conduct research, teach and inform about the opportunities, and possible risks incurred, when using our forests, landscapes, soils and animals in different ways.SLU offers a broad spectrum of educational programmes and single subject courses.About 3 300 undergraduates and 800 postgraduate students are enrolled at SLU.A total of 3 200 people are employed at the University.Main campuses are located at Alnarp, Skara, Ultuna and Umeå.Research and teaching activities are carried out throughout the country. www.slu.se www.sol.slu.se A post doctoral fellowship is available at The Unit of Rural Development at the Department of Urban and Rural Development. The post doc will be linked to two ongoing research projects: "Terra incognita" - governance and the representation of the European Countryside and "The Social Imperative" - analysing the importance of social networks for rural development in Sweden.As an academic subject at SLU we consider Rural Development as the study of rural change in a comparative perspective.The unit has a special focus on the interaction of social systems with natural resource management aiming at sustainable development.Rural development is an interdisciplinary subject which includes analysis and descriptions of rural change processes as well as methods for working with local and regional rural development.The subject integrates knowledge and methods from behavioural, social and natural sciences.Research is carried out in Sweden and Europe as well as in the developing countries. For more information about our research please visit http://www.sol.slu.se/lbutv Qualifications: The applicant should have completed a Ph D dissertation at a university other than SLU within the last five years.Particular emphasis will be placed on scientific qualifications within the subject area.The applicant should have experiences from the field in European countries.Research experiences from outside Europe as well as knowledge of Swedish is qualifying.Apart from this, it is important that the applicant has good skills in cooperation and networking as well as the capacity to take initiatives of her/his own and manage the work in a self-directed way.
