Subject description
Waste Science and Technology incorporates all stages of society’s waste management – generation, collection, treatment and disposal of waste, including reuse and recycling. The research aims at the development of tools and processes that facilitate sustainable soil remediation and waste management.

Project description
The main objective of this project is to create a sustainable and cost-effective solution for managing PFAS-contaminated groundwater that can be applied on site. This means taking a combination of techniques that have exhibited the highest potential for PFAS degradation in previous project accomplishments and configuring them in a manner that allows them to be applied at the contamination source. This will prevent any further spreading of PFAS into the environment while simultaneously destroying the compounds. Accomplishing this objective is a demanding task that requires the collaborative efforts of a diverse range of researchers and stakeholders to provide smart solutions for this challenge.

Duties
Your duties will mainly consist of research and applying for external funding of research projects. You will plan and implement experiments, carry out chemical analyzes, evaluate results, describe those in scientific articles to be published in international scientific journals and presented at national and international conferences. Teaching and educational development work can be included in the tasks.

Qualifications
To be eligible for employment, a PhD is required in technology or science (environmental engineering, chemical engineering, waste science and technology, etc.), a good publication record in any of these areas and very good knowledge of spoken and written communication in English. Ability to operate analytical equipment for PFAS analyses is meritorious. Advanced knowledge in soil science or electrochemistry is an advantage, but is not required. Candidates who are very close to finishing their PhD can apply.
