Arbetsbeskrivning

Information about the research/the project/the division
The Department of Applied Mechanics is one of the leading environments within Mechanical Engineering and Vehicle research. The six different research divisions conduct world-leading research, usually in close collaboration with national and international industries. Research topics encompass both fundamental and applied research questions. Our goal is to contribute to the development of safe and environmentally friendly products for a sustainable society. The Department of Applied Mechanics offers a wide range of courses in the undergraduate programmes, in addition to two international Masters Programmes in Applied Mechanics and Automotive Engineering. Courses are available within the four graduate schools: Thermo and Fluid Dynamics, Machine and Vehicle Systems, Solid and Structural Mechanics, and Internal Combustion Engine Technology. In addition Applied Mechanics provides international continuation courses.

The department has approximately 170 employees. The details of the departmental research activities may be found at http://www.chalmers.se/am

We are looking for an excellent, motivated, self-driven post-doctoral researcher to work in the area of fluid dynamics. The position is for 24 months and located at the Department of Applied Mechanics, division of Fluid Dynamics. The research project is devoted to research on reduction of skin friction of marine transport by use of advanced surface coatings. The postdoctoral fellow will take care on CFD calculations and participate in experimental studies in cooperation with another post-doc.

Major responsibilities
Present project focuses on measurements and simulations of the boundary layer flow. The measurements will be conducted in our own small-scale rig with PIV (particle image velocimetry). The CFD studies will be conducted with ANSYS Fluent and CFX.

Your major responsibility as postdoc is to perform your own research in a research group. The position also includes teaching on undergraduate and master's levels as well as supervising master's and/or PhD students to a certain extent. Another important aspect involves collaboration within academia and with society at large. The position is meritorious for future research duties within academia as well as industry/the public sector.

Position summary
Full-time temporary employment. The position is limited to a maximum of two years (1+1).

Qualifications
To qualify for the position of postdoc, you must have a doctoral degree in fluid dynamics by the start of the appointment (2013-11-04); the degree should generally not be older than three years. You are expected to be somewhat accustomed to teaching, and to demonstrate good potential within research and education. You are expected to work independently and to be able to supervise/co-supervise PhD and Master’s students.

The position requires sound verbal and written communication skills in Swedish and English. If Swedish is not your native language, you should be able to teach in Swedish on undergraduate level after two years. Chalmers offers Swedish courses.
