Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences Department of Soil Sciences, Division of Precision Agriculture, Skara Post-Doctoral position in high resolution soil sensing and mapping SLU (Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences) develops learning and expertise in areas concerning our planet's living natural resources. The Faculty of Natural Resources and Agricultural Sciences is the largest of the four faculties of SLU. Our area of activity covers a wide range of disciplines, spanning over agriculture, food and biotechnology to natural resources, environment and landscape planning.The 18 departments at the faculty are organised in four clusters. Most of the departments and the faculty office are located in Uppsala, 65 km north of Stockholm, but important activities are also carried out in Umeå, Skara, and Grimsö. SLU announces a vacancy for post-doctoral position in high resolution soil sensing and mapping located at the Department of Soil Sciences, Division of Precision Agriculture, Skara Research environment: The Department of Soil Sciences conducts basic and applied research regarding biological, physical and chemical soil processes and the influence of soil management methods on plant production and the environment. The main objective of the Division of Precision Agriculture, which is located in Skara, is to develop methods and strategies for managing spatial heterogeneity within fields for enhancing crop production and minimizing negative impacts on the environment. A two-year post-doctoral position is available at the department to conduct research on how to use pertinent soil sensor data with high resolution for agriculture decision support. The work will involve the development of strategies to combine such sensor data with data from traditional soil analysis and other information through statistical methods to gain relevant high resolution soil maps in three dimensions. Duties: The primary duty for the researcher is to develop the science within the research area in close collaboration with the existing research group. This post-doc project will be linked to several ongoing research projects and will be carried out on existing field data with supplementary data collection. Eligibility: Applicants should have a PhD degree or a foreign degree deemed to be equivalent to a doctorate. Assessment criteria: Particular emphasis will be placed on scientific qualifications within the subject area. Suitable educational background is a Master in agriculture, soil science, earth sciences or similar subjects. Previous experience of soil sensors, GIS, 3D-modelling, remote sensing and (multivariate) statistics is particularly valuable. Good co-operation skills are required.
