Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences Department of Economics Post-Doctoral position in Economics SLU develops knowledge about natural resources as well as social systems - everything that lives and grows.At SLU we conduct research, teach and inform about the opportunities, and possible risks incurred, when using our forests, landscapes, soils and animals in different ways.SLU offers a broad spectrum of educational programmes and single subject courses.About 3 300 undergraduates and 800 postgraduate students are enrolled at SLU.A total of 3 000 people are employed at the University.Main campuses are located at Alnarp, Skara, Ultuna and Umeå.Research and teaching activities are carried out throughout the country. The Department of Economics, SLU, Uppsala has units for research and teaching in Business administration, Economics, and Agrarian History.In the Economics Unit we specialize on environmental and natural resource economics, and agricultural policy. www.slu.se Biofuel Economics The recently increasing promotion and use of biofuels calls for economic analyses of this type of energy.We are seeking a post-doctoral researcher with the ability and interest to track down the private and social costs and benefits of various types of biofuels, such as ethanol, biodiesel and biogas.It can then be important to try to make a judgement about the possibilities for future technological change, which would make cost reduction possible.Another important area concerns the role for economic policy: how large should the subsidies of biofuels be and how much of this should be put on research, production and distribution, respectively?Naturally, the research should take into account that the use of land for biofuels crowds out alternative land uses, such as food production.For more information about our research, see http://www2.ekon.slu.se/rob/wwwresearch/.Qualifications: The applicant should be highly motivated and have a PhD degree in economics.Good knowledge of microeconomics, in particular optimal policy design is desirable.Econometric skills to estimate supply and demand of biofuels is a merit but not a prerequisite.The applicant should have proven skills in both oral and written scientific English.Documents that should be included in the application: CV, Publication list, PhD diploma, copies of no more than five publications.A short description (2-4 pages) of previous research, current research interests and other activities of relevance for the position.Telephone numbers and e-mail addresses of two referees.All application documents should be written in English.The position is for two years, starting September 2008 or as soon as possible thereafter.
