Arbetsbeskrivning

Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences Department of Soil and Environment, Uppsala Post Doctoral position - Evaluation of field experiments for reduction of nutrient leaching from agricultural soils SLU develops the understanding and sustainable use of biological natural resources. This is achieved through research, teaching, environmental monitoring and assessment and information extension.SLU has 3 000 employees, 4 200 undergraduate and postgraduate students.Main campuses are located at Alnarp, Skara, Uppsala and Umeå.www.slu.se www.mark.slu.se Within the Biogeophysics and Water quality research group at the Department of Soil and Environment much effort is focused on mitigation strategies to reduce losses of nutrients and organic risk substances from agricultural soils. We have a long experience of measuring nutrient dynamics and leaching in different cropping systems.Such results are important for development of good management practices in Swedish agriculture and are widely used by advisory services, for regulations, development of mitigation programs within the EU Water Framework Directive, and the Baltic Sea Action Plan.Experiments are carried out at field sites with separately tile-drained plots and in lysimeters. In total, there are today 200 field plots at 6 different field experimental sites in different parts of the country. Research area: This post-doctoral position project offers several opportunities: To evaluate existing field experimental data collected since the 1980 s in studies of nitrogen and phosphorus content in crops, and in soil and drainage water in cropping systems with different management practices (i.e.soil tillage strategies, different types of manure, cover crops, organic farming etc). Not all data have been published yet.To take part in ongoing studies and planning of new experiments. To carry out model applications.Field data is continuously used for development and calibration of nitrogen and phosphorus leaching models which are used for large-scale calculations of nutrient leaching from Swedish agriculture.
