Arbetsbeskrivning
Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences Department of Ecology, Uppsala.Post-Doctoral position Processes controlling carbon fluxes in the soil-vegetation-atmosphere system Ecosystem carbon fluxes vary substantially between different years, mainly due to a complicated, manifold dependence on climatic variables and growth responses.A two-year post-doctoral position is available at the Department of Ecology to study carbon fluxes by field measurements and modelling. The main goals are to quantify carbon budgets of forest ecosystems, to increase understanding of underlying processes, and to improve carbon cycle models. The tasks will mainly include analysis of existing data, and to some extent maintenance of ongoing field measurements.Within the Ecology Department we conduct both empirical and theoretical studies of ecosystem carbon fluxes at scales from cell to landscape. The aims are to assess regional carbon budgets and effects of disturbances and climate change, to improve process-based models, and to identify management schemes that increase carbon sequestration by ecosystems. Eligibility: Applicants should have a PhD degree or a foreign degree equivalent to a doctorate.Qualifications: The applicant should be experienced with environmental measurements, database handling, and high-level computer programming.Understanding of fluxes within the soil-plant-atmosphere system and knowledge in biology, chemistry, and meteorology is also desirable. The applicant should have proven good skills in both oral and written scientific English, ability for work at remote field sites, and a car driver license. The position is full-time and will be granted for a period of two years, starting as soon as possible.Documents that should be included with the application: CV, publication list, PhD diploma, copies of no more than five publications.A short description (2-4 pages) of previous research, current research interests and other activities of relevance for the position.Names and addresses of at least two reference persons. All application documents should be written in English.SLU is an equal opportunity employer.Applications marked with ref no 512/08, must have arrived at the Registrator of SLU, P.O.
