Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences Department of Plant Biology and Forest Genetics at Uppsala BioCenter Post-Doctoral position Stress signalling in plants - a systems biology approach Research environment: Uppsala BioCenter at SLU is a newly established collaborative cluster of six Departments; Plant Biology & Forest Genetics, Microbiology, Chemistry, Forest Mycology & Pathology, Food Sciences, and Molecular Biology with a stimulating international environment. The research network at Uppsala BioCenter covers a wide range of disciplines drawn from biology and chemistry and are used to study plants and microbes at the genetic, molecular, cellular and whole organism level.Uppsala BioCentre has a well-established infrastructure to support the research. We also use the joint SLU-Uppsala University Centres for bioinformatics, proteomics and microscopy/imaging.Title: Stress signalling in plants - a systems biology approach Applicants are invited for a two-year post-doctoral position in the field of stress signalling in plants with an integrative approach. The aim of the project is to enhance our understanding of gene expression and signalling of plants exposed to different types of biotic or abiotic stress. The work mainly concerns Arabidopsis thaliana but comparisons with the relative Brassica napus (oilseed rape) are also planned. The plants will be exposed to various types of stress e.g.a soil fungus vs.a leaf pathogen or in combination with different types of insects, and compared on transcriptome and metabolome levels.Further, impact of variant nutrient regimes and temperatures will be studied.Mutants, repression and reporter plants will be generated to target roles of various factors.Follow-up work includes modelling, prediction and function analysis. The latter comprise of detailed functional and cellular analysis of target genes defined via e.g.microarray analysis.Eligibility and qualifications: Applicants must have a PhD in plant molecular biology or equivalent. The applicant should preferably have documented experience of using functional genomics tools and bioinformatics.Experience of integrative systems biology approaches and bioimaging is an advantage. The applicant should have good communication skills and proven skills in both oral and written scientific English.Documents that should be included in the application: CV, publication list, PhD certificate, copies of no more than 5 publications.A short description (2-4 pages) of previous research, current research interests, and other activities of relevance for the position should be provided.State contact information of at least two reference persons. All documents should be written in English. For further information, please contact Prof. SLU is an equal opportunity employer. An application, marked with ref no 730/08, should be submitted to the Registrar of SLU, P.O.
