Post doctoral position, Inorganic Chemistry

Arbetsbeskrivning

Post doctoral position in powder diffraction studies using synchrotron radiation at the Department of Materials and Environmental Chemistry, Stockholm University
Ref number SU-FV-3698-13
Deadline for applications: 7 January 2013
Subject area: Synchrotron powder diffraction
The Department of Materials and Environmental Chemistry, Stockholm University is one of the leading departments in inorganic materials chemistry and structural characterization (www.mmk.su.se).
We seek a post-doctoral scientist to develop the cooperation between MMK, Uppsala University and research groups in Germany on synchrotron X-ray powder diffraction studies of technological important materials and competence development for characterising crystal structures and order/disorder in solids by synchrotron X-ray powder diffraction. Data will mainly be collected at PETRA-III in Hamburg, Germany. The work will involve to chart existing capabilities for measurements at ambient and non-ambient (e.g. high/low temperatures) conditions and different in situ cells (e.g. with applied electric/magnetic fields), establish contacts with beam line scientists, and then plan and carry out relevant experiments for materials of different research groups at Stockholm and Uppsala University. An additional part of the work is to carry out experiments to gain competence in characterizing disorder and local order in solids using synchrotron radiation and by analysis of pair distribution functions.

Eligibility
The applicant should have a PhD in Chemistry or Physics with a strong focus on powder diffraction. Experience in other techniques such as EXAFS and/or neutron diffraction but also Mössbauer are meriting. Previous working experience at a synchrotron facility is an advantage. The applicant needs to have a PhD not older than 3 years.

Selection criteria
The selection is based primarily on scientific excellence. Preference will be given to applicants with experience of using powder diffraction techniques for the study of inorganic materials.
Conditions of employment
The position is full time at the department of Materials and Environmental chemistry for one year, 10-20% of the time will be spent at synchrotron sources. It can be prolonged with another year if funding is found although with a maximum of two years.
For more information, please contact Prof. Gunnar Svensson, e-mail gunnar@mmk.su.se.
Union representatives are Anqi Lindblom-Ahlm (SACO) (SACO), Lisbeth Häggberg (Fackförbundet ST), telephone +46-(0)8-16 2000 (switch board), and Gunnar Stenberg (SEKO), telephone +46-(0)70-316 43 41.

Application
All applications (including a letter of interest, a curriculum vitae, copies of scientific degrees and transcripts of academic records (all attested) and the names and contact information of two references) received not later than 7 January 2014 will receive full consideration. The application should be submitted as one PDF-file.
Please send your application, marked with the reference number SU-FV-3698-13 no later than 7 January 2014 to:
