Post-doctoral researcher in Bioinformatics with focus on infection biology/ Uppsala A post-doc position is available at the Section of Virology, Department of Biomedical Sciences and Veterinary Public Health, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and Animal Sciences, Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences, Uppsala, Sweden. The main focus of the research at the Section of Virology is to study various aspects on viral infection of domestic and wild animals, including the vectors that transmit viruses. Our main interest is to study the microbiome in relation to health and disease. To do this we use large-scale sequence analysis and bioinformatics, but also more classical methods of virus cultivation, molecular methods and in vitro studies in cell cultures. Currently the section consists of one professor, four senior researchers, one adjunct lecturer, four PhD students and various guest researchers.

Arbetsuppgifter: To be responsible for analysis of data from large-scale sequencing runs, in close contact with the other researchers at the section. This includes analysis of for example transcriptomic and metagenomic datasets. The selected candidate will also be responsible for her/his own research project/s. This includes all aspects from planning, experimental design, performing experiments and analysis of data to publishing the findings. The topic of this research will be discussed and depend on the background/qualifications of the applicant. To write applications for further financing is also part of duties within this position.

Kvalifikationer: A PhD in biosciences, preferably in bioinformatics in relation to infection biology. Must be highly experienced and skillful in analysis of large sequence data sets and prior experience in working with annotations, metagenomic, transcriptomic and/or small RNA datasets are valuable. Also knowledge in statistics is highly beneficial. The applicant should have a good ability to work in a team, ability to work independently and personal qualities are also of high importance. As postdoctoral appointments are career-developing positions for junior researchers, we are primarily looking for candidates with a doctoral degree that is three years old at most.
