Arbetsbeskrivning
A post-doctoral position is available in the Department of Chemistry and Biomedical Sciences at Karlstad University in Sweden Materials Science is one of the focus areas of the faculty's research and within this area, there is an ongoing collaboration between Physical Chemistry and Materials Physics in the field of polymer photovoltaics. Within the field, Physical Chemistry contributes with research on interactions between polymers and added particles in solution, spectroscopic and microscopic characterisation, and a molecular understanding of the physical and chemical processes in polymer solar cells. We now have the opportunity to strengthen our research group and the collaboration with a post-doctoral researcher for a fixed-term appointment of two years. Polymer - Additive Interactions in Solution We are looking for a skilled experimentalist for a research project on the interactions between polymers and nano to meso-sized additives in solution. The systems studied will be model systems as well as conjugated polymer blends for solar cells. This solution-based fabrication process of the thin polymer films makes it possible to influence the composition and structure of the film by blending with other molecules or nano-particles. The research project aims at a deeper understanding of the equilibrium and non-equilibrium processes yielding different morphologies when applying a concentration gradient through drying. The main methods that will be used are optical microscopy with image analysis and dynamic and static fluorescence spectroscopy. In collaboration with Materials Physics, methods as AFM will also be applied. Most of the experimental work will be carried out at Karlstad University, even though specific tasks may be done at laboratories we cooperate with in or outside of Sweden. Starting date 1 September 2010 or upon agreement. Length of employment The post is a fixed-term full-time position and will last 24 months. Extension would be subject to additional external funding. Qualifications and assessment criteria For this position a doctoral degree is required in Physical Chemistry, Chemical Materials Science, or in another for this project relevant discipline. The doctoral degree should on 1 July 2010 not be older than 3 years, unless there are special circumstances. Research experience with focus on polymers and particles in solution is a strong requirement. Experience with theoretical calculations in this field is a strong asset. As the position might include some teaching responsibilities, teaching experience and knowledge of surface chemistry, colloid chemistry, polymer chemistry, interfacial engineering, or general, chemical, and applied thermodynamics, are assets. Experience with the planning of research projects and supervision of students are advantages. Selection is on the basis of individual assessment. Read more about how to apply at kau.se/ledigatjanster
