This position includes collaboration with several industrial organizations, aiming to increase sustainability and competitiveness through Smart Maintenance. Chalmers and the Division of Production Systems
Chalmers is one of the leading universities in industrial digitalization for sustainable and competitive manufacturing. The Division of Production Systems is an internationally strong and established team of more than 30 cross-disciplinary researchers, teachers, PhD candidates, and support staff. The Division maintains good gender balance and high diversity. We are engaged in research, education, and innovation; both nationally and internationally. We collaborate closely with industry in design, deployment, operation, and maintenance of future industrial production systems. Our advanced research facilities and new labs for industrial digitalization enable deep involvement in national and European projects. As an example, our Stena Industry Innovation Laboratory is co-located with one of the five local centers of the new European EIT Manufacturing initiative. Our three research groups work in the domain of Industrial Production Systems. Some typical areas for research and education are: smart maintenance; advanced production data analysis and AI; VR and AR for production design; connectivity for people and machines using 5G; digital sustainability assessment; human collaboration with automation and robots.
The specific open position is part of the research group called Production Service and Maintenance Systems, a team of 9 researchers passionate about modernizing maintenance in a digitalized industry. You can find additional information about our research groups on our division webpage.
Work content and responsibilities
The offered post-doc position is in the field of Production Service and Maintenance Systems. Your challenge and responsibility will be to modernize and improve industrial maintenance operations using the Smart Maintenance concept and its four core dimensions: data-driven decisions; human capital resource; internal integration; and external integration.
You will be responsible for the collaboration between Chalmers and a group of our partner companies within this field. We expect you to stay up-to-date on and contribute to the state-of-the-art within each of the four dimensions of Smart Maintenance though meriting scientific publications. We also expect you to contribute to the competence development and teaching of university students as well as industry practitioners.
Contract terms
Full-time temporary employment as post-doctoral researcher. The position is limited to a maximum of two years (1+1).
Qualifications
We believe you have a genuine interest and knowledge in organizational perspectives of Smart Maintenance. You are also passionate about finding synergies between research excellence and effective utilization of research in industry. You have a PhD in mechanical engineering, industrial engineering, or similar.
You will be a link between Chalmers and partner companies for Smart Maintenance research. Therefore, it is important that you prove excellent qualities in empirical research methods with experience in both qualitative and quantitative methods. Experiences and education in teaching and research utilization are important. Prior collaboration with industry or the public sector is important and education and experience in project management is a merit.
The research group of Production Service and Maintenance Systems currently includes 9 researchers. We expect you to be a team-player, because we value close collaboration within our team to share ideas and competences between our different projects.
You should be able to speak and write English fluently and be willing to learn Swedish. Chalmers offers Swedish courses.
