The Department of Soil & Environment is a leading center for soil science, nationally and internationally. We conduct research, environmental monitoring & assessment and higher education for sustainable soil management in agricultural, forest and urban environments. Outcomes are aligned to and contribute towards national and international strategies on food security, national environmental objectives and climate reporting as well as the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. The majority of the department’s activities are located in the Soil-Water-Environment center at the SLU Ultuna campus in Uppsala with one research group situated in Skara.
Duties:
We are looking for a highly motivated person to a project aiming for improved predictions of the effect of biochar use on green-house gas emissions. The successful applicant will conduct research on the stability of biochars in soils in laboratory and field experiments.
Qualifications:
PhD exam in relevant topic based on research in soil science or biogeochemistry focusing on organic matter dynamics in soil. Laboratory and field experiment experience is required and previous experience of biochar research is a merit. The applicant should have a documented capability to carry out independent research and authoring scientific publications. Good overall communication skills, including the ability to communicate and write well in English are expected.
Postdoctoral appointments are career-developing positions for junior researchers, so we are primarily looking for candidates with a doctoral degree that that is five years old at the most.
