Postdoc Fellow: Cellular Senescence and Metabolism

Summary of the group:
The successful Postdoc will be a part of AstraZeneca Early cardiovascular, renal and metabolic diseases group. In Early CVRM, we aim to slow, halt and ultimately reverse the progression of Cardiovascular Renal and Metabolic Diseases which affect millions of people every year, worldwide and remains a major unmet medical need. We investigate the drivers of disease and of disease progression through cutting-edge science, delivering innovative therapeutic approaches, to enable more patients to reach their treatment goals earlier. This position is in the Metabolism Bioscience department and will play a critical role in identifying new pathways and therapeutic targets for the treatment of metabolic diseases.
Main Duties & Responsibilities:
This project will focus on applying patient-centric methodologies, working with primary human cells and patient samples to identify new pathways and mechanisms to modulate liver and adipose tissue function. This will include:
* Designing and conducting experiments, both independently and with other scientists across several disciplines
* Interpreting the results and deciding on research project strategy
* Communicating the results both internally and externally, through presentations at meetings and conferences, and importantly publishing in peer reviewed journals
Education & Experience Requirements:
* A PhD in a life science area
* Expert knowledge in metabolic diseases, and liver and adipose tissue biology
Required Skills:
* The candidate must have expertise in basic cellular and molecular biology methods such as mammalian cell culture (preferably adipocyte and hepatocytes), and gene and protein expression analysis
* The candidate must have strong organizational, communication (spoken and written English), interpersonal skills and the ability to work well in a team
* Proven record of research, as shown by publications in reputable scientific journals
* Excellent technical writing and verbal communication skills
Desired Skills:
* Experience with cellular senescence and adipose tissue browning
* Experience with transcriptomics and proteomics techniques and large data set analysis
* Experience designing and executing in vivo experiments
* Experience working in cross-functional matrix teams
