Postdoc Fellow - Personalized Medicine and Drug Safety Using Multiomics and Data Science Approaches
Location: Gothenburg, Sweden
AstraZeneca is a global, science-led, patient-centered biopharmaceutical company that focuses on the discovery, development and commercialization of prescription medicines for some of the world's most serious disease. But we're more than one of the world's leading pharmaceutical companies. At AstraZeneca, we 're dedicated to being a Great Place to Work where you are empowered to push the boundaries of science and fuel your entrepreneurial spirit. There's no better place to make a difference to medicine, patients and society.
About the Postdoc Programme
Bring your expertise, apply your knowledge, follow the science and make a difference!
AstraZeneca's Postdoc Programme is for self-motivated individuals looking to take on exciting, high impact projects in a collaborative and innovative environment.
Working with peers and professionals from a diverse set of backgrounds, together with a world class academic mentor aligned specifically to your project, you'll be respected as a specialist, and encouraged to speak up. You'll lead a novel and innovative research project at the interface of drug discovery and biopharmaceutical development in a multi-disciplinary scientific environment. You'll be empowered and supported to drive the success of your project, publish papers, achieve your goals and make difference to our patients.
Running alongside your research project, our postdoc training program will help you learn about drug discovery and development from industry leaders working in our cutting edge research laboratories and organization.
About the Opportunity
Within AstraZeneca R&D, Clinical Pharmacology & Safety Sciences (CPSS) forms a global R&D organization that spans multiple sites across US, UK, and Sweden. One of the greatest challenges when discovering and formulating effective medicines lies in mapping their pharmacokinetic and toxicological properties, predicting how new chemicals will react within the human body. We ensure our drug products are safe for clinical trials, and ultimately safe to deliver as novel treatments to patients. To make that happen, you'll be working with truly ground breaking in silico, in vivo, cellular and molecular technologies to push the boundaries of predictive science.
Working together with Johanna Sagemark, Associate Director, Data Science, Bhavik Chouhan, Senior Scientist, Hepatic Safety and Bino John, Director, Data Science, at AstraZeneca and Aleksej Zelezniak, Associate Professor, Biology and Biological Engineering, Systems and Synthetic Biology from Chalmers University of Technology, you will lead projects applying state-of-the art transcriptomics techniques and novel bioinformatics approaches to provide insightful analyses that will progress understanding of liver disease and toxicity. The project will improve the drug discovery process and contribute to patient safety. While the strive is to publish the work in high-impact journals, you will also gain increased expertise in data science, machine learning, computational biology and drug discovery and development.
Based on the interest of the applicant, there will be opportunity to use additional state-of-the art technologies and resources available within AstraZeneca (e.g.spatial transcriptomics, proteomics, UKBiobank).
You will be analyzing large omics data sets and use computational systems biology approaches to discover genes and molecular networks that can be used as novel signatures for personalized safety. As in an academic postdoc program, you are expected to publish your work and continue to develop as a scientist. You will have an opportunity to collaborate across various groups across AstraZeneca and our academic partners to deliver successful project outcomes.
