Arbetsbeskrivning
Lund University was founded in 1666 and is regularly ranked as one of the world’s top 100 higher education institutions. The University has 41 000 students and 7 500 staff based in Lund, Helsingborg and Malmö. We are united in our efforts to understand, explain and improve our world and the human condition.
MAX IV is a national large-scale research laboratory providing scientists from Sweden and the rest of the world with instruments for research in areas such as materials science, structural biology, chemistry and nanotechnology. Fully developed it will receive more than 2 000 scientists annually. 200 people are currently employed at the MAX IV Laboratory.
Worktask
The postdoc position is located at the HIPPIE beamline for Ambient pressure x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (APXPS) on the 3 GeV ring of MAX IV.
During the first half of 2017 the beamline will be in the commissioning phase to then go over into its operation phase. The work tasks of the postdoctoral researcher are the active participation in the commissioning of the beamline and end station; in collaboration with the entire beamline team the interaction with and support of, initially, expert users and, later, regular users; the development of her/his own scientific project within the possibilities and capabilities of the beamline; and the collaboration with user groups. The scientific project of the postdoctoral researcher can make use not only of the HIPPIE beamline, but also of other beamlines at MAX IV or at other synchrotron radiation facilities and the general surface science environment of MAX IV (which includes a scanning tunnelling microscopy laboratory). The active collaboration with users to forward the postdoctoral researcher’s own research project as well as the projects of users is highly desirable as is the collaboration with the SPECIES beamline for Ambient pressure x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and Resonant inelastic x-ray scattering on the 1.5 GeV ring of the MAX IV Laboratory.
Qualifications
The successful candidate must hold a PhD in physics, chemistry, materials science, or a related discipline.
Documented extensive experience of performing and interpreting surface science experiments.
Documented extensive experience of working with ultrahigh vacuum instrumentation.
Documented experience of synchrotron-based spectroscopy and/or microscopy experiments, of working with x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, and of work with the design and set-up of new surface science instruments are considered an advantage.
Good communication skills and command of the English language are mandatory
We kindly decline all sales and marketing contacts.
