Postdoc in 2D semiconductor quantum materials and nanodevices

Postdoc in 2D semiconductor quantum materials and nanodevices

Arbetsbeskrivning

We are looking for a motivated postdoctoral researcher to be part of our experimental research 2D semiconductor quantum materials heterostructure devices at the Chalmers University of Technology, Gothenburg, Sweden. The aim of this project is to exploit the electronic transport properties in nanodevices of 2D semiconductor materials heterostructure for practical electronic, optoelectronic and quantum device applications.

Information about the research and the department
2D quantum materials and nanodevice research at Chalmers aims to engineer their functionalities by making their van der Waals heterostructures. Our group develops novel approaches for nanofabrication and design new measurement techniques that lead to fundamental physics experiments and practical applications. This experimental research consists of the preparation of 2D semiconductor materials heterostructure, device fabrication in "state of the art" cleanroom, and sensitive electronic transport measurements. This research will be carried out together with different patterns with complementary expertise at Chalmers and collaborators at the national and international levels. Our group is also part of the European Union funded Graphene Flagship, looking for practical electronic applications of graphene and related 2D materials based devices. These studies strive for a better understanding and control of the electronic transport phenomenon in these novel 2D electronic material heterostructures and can pave the way for future generations of information and sensing technology, which can be smaller, faster, more sensitive and energy-efficient for a sustainable society.

This research is well supported by excellent nanofabrication and characterization facility available at the department. The department houses a 1240 m2 of cleanroom space with state-of-the-art research equipment providing a broad platform for the development and testing of new ideas in nanoscience. The position will be placed in the Quantum Device Physics Laboratory, at The Department of Microtechnology and Nanoscience. The main research focus of the laboratory is on 2D Materials based devices, nanoelectronics, spintronics, quantum transport, topological quantum materials and devices, superconducting quantum interference device. The Department of Microtechnology and Nanoscience focuses on research, innovation and education within the fields of future electronics, photonics, bio- and nanosystems.

Major responsibilities
Your major responsibility in this project is to perform research on emerging 2D quantum materials and semiconductors down to the atomic scale and their van der Waals heterostructure with moiré super lattice. The aim is to develop new concepts in device physics and applications in nanoelectronics, optoelectronics and quantum technologies. It includes growth of 2D materials, preparation of heterostructure, clean room nanofabrication with electron beam lithography, structural characterization and electronic transport measurements. Strong collaboration with other academic groups and industry worldwide, European Union Graphene flagship project, 2D Tech and Graphene center at Chalmers and Industry partners in Sweden are a major goal of this project.

Qualifications
To qualify for the position of postdoc, you must hold a doctoral degree awarded no more than three years prior to the application deadline (according to the current agreement with the Swedish Agency for Government Employers) in Physics or Electrical Engineering or Nanosicence and Nanotechnology. You are an experimentalist with experience in 2D semiconductor growth, nanoscale device fabrication, instrumentation and low-temperature quantum transport measurements. You are a creative person who can shape your own research, and has a great potential in student supervision.

The position requires sound verbal and written communication skills in English. Swedish is not a requirement but Chalmers offers Swedish courses.

Contract terms
This postdoc position is a full-time temporary employment for two years.
