Postdoc in building a superconducting quantum computer

Postdoc in building a superconducting quantum computer

Arbetsbeskrivning

This postdoc position is part of the 3-year international QuantERA project SuperLink, a collaborative project between Chalmers, the Italian National Research Council, SISSA, the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and Quantum Machines. SuperLink aims at tackling critical open problems in quantum computing with superconducting circuits. While superconducting qubits are leading candidates for scaling to disruptely useful quantum computations, it has become clear that scaling beyond 100 qubits will require dramatically different architectures as control and readout of these devices will become unmanageable with the approached used so far.

Information about the research project and the department
You will work in the stimulating research environment of the Wallenberg Centre for Quantum Technology (WACQT), a 12-year initiative started in 2018 with the purpose of advancing Swedish academia and industry to the forefront of quantum technology, and to build a Swedish quantum computer. You will be part of the Quantum Technology Laboratory (QTL) within the Microtechnology and Nanoscience (MC2) Department. MC2 hosts a state-of-the-art nanofabrication facility and as a member of QTL you will have access to measurement laboratories for superconducting quantum devices.

Major responsibilities
In this project, you will integrate circuits based on superconducting single-flux quantum (SFQ) digital logic with quantum circuits. You are expected to perform simulation and design of the quantum devices in collaboration with other consortium partners. You will also be leading the fabrication of the quantum devices in Chalmers and measuring their performances in our state-of-the-art laboratory. You will also help with the supervision of  PhD students. Another important aspect involves collaboration within academia and with society at large. The position is meritorious for future research duties within academia as well as industry/the public sector.

Qualifications
To qualify for the position of postdoc, you must hold a doctoral degree in Physics, Applied Physics, Nanotechnology, or equivalent, obtained no more than three years prior to the application deadline (according to the current agreement with the Swedish Agency for Government Employers). You need to be motivated for a career in quantum technology, be it in academia or at an institute or company. You have a collaborative attitude and an interest in working both independently and collaboratively in a team environment, sharing best practices and assuming responsibility. You are self-propelled, pay attention to detail, and possess a problem-solving analytical ability.

We are looking for someone with expertise in some of the following:
- design and fabrication of superconducting circuits
- experimental quantum computing
- microwave quantum optics or related fields in experimental physics.

The position requires sound verbal and written communication skills in English. Swedish is not a requirement but Chalmers offers Swedish courses.

Contract terms
This postdoc position is a full-time temporary employment for two/three years.
