Arbetsbeskrivning
This postdoc position will offer you the possibility to use your existing skills in materials research and apply them to develop novel separation membranes for dialysis in wearable devices. Your responsibility will be to develop highly selective separation membranes with proteins embedded. The work will be performed in a dedicated team of experienced researchers with complementary backgrounds and in direct collaboration with the start-up company Aquammodate AB. If you are a creative and curious person wanting to take part in the future development of dialysis devices using bio-mimicry, this is the position for you.
Information about the division and the project
In this Postdoc position, you will join the activities at the Division of Applied Chemistry at the Department of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering. The division has an applied focus with emphasis on the development of new materials.
In this project, you will work on developing a new type of separation membrane for kidney dialysis applications (resembling reverse osmosis membranes). The main focus will be to set-up the production of highly selective separation membranes and to investigate the use of alternative synthesis methods and monomers to optimize membrane characteristics and protein incorporation. A pilot-scale production unit for synthesis of membrane proteins will be developed in another postdoc project running in parallel in order to apply the proteins in the dialysis application. You will develop the membrane formation and testing procedures and take part in the protein stabilization activities.
Major responsibilities
During your postdoc, you will communicate the results from your project by publishing articles in relevant peer-reviewed international scientific journals and by participating in national and international meetings and conferences. Within the daily work as a postdoc, our ambition is that you find variation and interact with not only other postdoctoral fellows, but also undergraduate students, PhD students, senior researchers and professors.
Your major responsibilities are to pursue the research project and to set-up membrane production. The position will be dedicated towards scientific research, yet in an entrepreneurial setting with direct applications in mind. You are expected to develop your own scientific concepts and communicate the results of your research verbally and in writing in English.
Qualifications
To qualify for the position of postdoc, you must hold a doctoral degree awarded no more than three years prior to the application deadline (according to the current agreement with the Swedish Agency for Government Employers). One of the most important qualification is your desire to devotedly use your skills in membrane formation to set up a pilot-scale production unit. You have a PhD in polymer chemistry, materials science, chemical engineering, biochemistry, or equivalent. You appreciate to work experimentally, but also with theoretical tools. Previous experience working with membrane formation and characterization is necessary.
Contract terms
This postdoc position is a full-time temporary employment for two years.
