Arbetsbeskrivning
Skilled and committed employees are a crucial factor in the success of Linköping University. And we need more of them. Our core expertise comes from teachers and researchers, but a successful university requires experienced and motivated employees in many fields. Everyone is important. We need to recruit many new employees thanks to, among all, an expansion in our research activity. We need you here. We look forward to receiving your application!
The Department of Thematic Studies was the first in Sweden to offer an academic setting for thematically organised, interdisciplinary, socially relevant research. We combine strong research with undergraduate and postgraduate programmes and courses, often in collaboration with actors outside the university.

Linköping University
Hereby advertises a position as Postdoc in Environmental Change, focusing on new instrumentation for measurements of air pollution and greenhouse gases.
Duties
The announced position is a part of the research on development of new measurement methods for air pollutants and greenhouse gases in collaboration with several European companies and universities.
The funding for the position is based on the need to evaluate and develop applications for a novel instrument for simultaneous quantification of many air pollutants and greenhouse gases in the spectral range of 2-10 µm. The tasks include to plan, perform, and publish instrument tests, and develop and publish relevant applications for multiple user groups and variable measurement conditions.
The instrument is based on infrared Fourier transform spectroscopy enabling assessment of many gases simultaneously. The instrument is intended to function for both stationary and mobile measurements to map emissions and exposure in time and space. The system will use machine learning to analyze spectra and calculate concentrations. The instrument will need to be tested in many different environments, and interferences from e.g., humidity and temperature, as well as drift and stability for target gases needs evaluation.
The work requires responsibility for research, including planning, creative development work and troubleshooting, field work in remote locations during system tests in Sweden and abroad, experiments and sampling for e.g. system calibration, and analyses of samples and data. In addition, an important part is to write and publish scientific papers in collaboration with the international team, and in different ways contribute successfully to research initiatives, and develop positive, stimulating and creative working conditions.
Documented scientific skills regarding work with measurement systems for gases and associated data is a requirement. Interest for field work and capability to travel to perform such work during test periods at different locations in Europe, and a drivers licence valid in Sweden is also required.
Beyond this, the evaluation is based on the level of competence regarding one or several of the below areas:
• Tests and calibration of instruments
• Development of instruments or relevant measurement methods
• Electronics and system trouble shooting
• Measurements of meteorological variables (e.g., wind, temperature, humidity) and knowledge on how these can influence results
• Measurements of air pollutants or greenhouse gases
• Infrared spectroscopy
• Spectroscopic modeling and quantification of gas concentrations
• Statistics or machine learning
• Independence and responsibility for projects
A Postdoc will essentially carry out research. The position may also involve teaching, but during no more than a fifth of work time.
Good English skills are required for the position.
As stated below Postdoc positions are primarily intended for persons recently being awarded the PhD degree (within three years of the application deadline). However, in this particular case, relevant work experience can be advantageous and exceptions from the three-year-rule can be made if specific reasons apply.
Qualifications
The position requires a doctorate, or an equivalent degree from a foreign university. The doctorate shall have been obtained no longer than three years before the expiration date of the application.
