Arbetsbeskrivning
Welcome to Linnaeus University! A place for knowledge, ideas and development. For growth potential and a belief in the future. In Småland and in the world.
The Department of Biology and Environmental Science is part of the Faculty of Health and Life Sciences. The research activities within this multidisciplinary department include the areas of aquatic ecology, cell and organism biology, evolutionary biology, microbiology, environmental science and environmental engineering as well as zoonotic ecology.
The research will investigate causes and consequences of genetic and phenotypic variation within and between populations and species. The research will be conducted within the framework of ongoing projects. Two main areas of research addressed by the group include ecological and evolutionary responses to spatiotemporal environmental change, and consequences for individuals, populations and species of variation in functionally important traits. Study organisms include insects (pygmy grasshoppers, butterflies and moths), fishes, and fish-associated microbial communities. Currently, we seek to strengthen our research team with a Post Doc student interested in evolutionary and molecular ecology in a broad sense. The student should have research interests and prior experiences that align with one or more of the currently ongoing research projects. The student will collaborate with group members in planning, conducting and disseminating research. The successful candidate should have skills and knowledge in methods and analysis of genetics and molecular data.
The Post Doc that we are looking for shall contribute to the development of ongoing research, and provide guidance to PhD and MSc students. Teaching might be included to some extent.
Qualification requirements for the position are a PhD, or a foreign degree equivalent to a PhD, in ecology, evolutionary biology, molecular ecology, or similar.
Furthermore, the applicant needs a strong record of evolutionary ecology research.
Other assessment grounds that would place the candidate at an advantage include documented evidence of research in evolutionary ecology, experience and knowledge in laboratory and statistical analysis of genetics and molecular data, as well as knowledge in bioinformatics analysis of sequencing data. In addition, the Postdoc should have a high proficiency in written and spoken English, be able to solve problems, and have the ability to work independently as well as interact well in a research group.
Terms of employment
The position will be full time for 1 year, with good opportunities to be extended. The starting date is from the 1st of March 2017 or as soon as the position can be filled.
