Where knowledge grows.
We are an international university in Småland, Sweden. Together we set knowledge in motion for a sustainable societal development.

The Department of Biology and Environmental Science is part of the Faculty of Health and Life Sciences.
The research activities within this multidisciplinary department include the areas of aquatic ecology, cell and organism biology, evolutionary biology, microbiology, environmental science and environmental engineering as well as zoonotic ecology.

Field of subject for the position: Evolutionary Ecology
Placement city: Kalmar
Extent and period: 1 year (100 %) with the possibility for extension up to a maximum of 2 years. Start 1 July 2020, or as soon as the position can be filled.

Context of position:
The working tasks consist mainly of research within evolutionary ecology. The research will investigate causes and consequences of genetic and phenotypic variation within and between populations and species. The research will be conducted within the framework of ongoing projects. Two main areas of research addressed by the group include ecological and evolutionary responses to spatiotemporal environmental change, and consequences for individuals, populations and species of variation in functionally important traits. Study organisms include insects (butterflies and moths) and fishes. Currently, we seek to strengthen our research team with a Postdoc interested in evolutionary and molecular ecology in a broad sense.

In your job you are expected to actively participate in the department's environment and network both internally and externally. The postdoc that we are looking for shall contribute to the development of ongoing research, collaborate with group members in planning, conducting and disseminating research, as well as provide guidance to PhD and MSc students.

Qualification requirements:
Qualified for appointment is the one who holds a PhD, or a foreign degree equivalent to a PhD in Ecology, Evolutionary Biology, or Molecular Ecology, and who have completed their degree no more than seven years before the application deadline.

Assessment criteria:
Assessment grounds that would place the candidate at an advantage include documented evidence of research in evolutionary ecology, experience and knowledge in laboratory and statistical analysis of genetics and molecular data, as well as knowledge in bioinformatics and analysis of sequencing data (e.g., microsatellite and RADseq data). Qualifying otherwise is also prior experiences and familiarity with the study systems, research questions and methods that align with one or more of the currently ongoing research projects. In addition, the postdoc should have a high proficiency in written and spoken English, be able to solve problems, and have the ability to work independently as well as interact well in a research group.

In its overall assessment of skills gives particular importance to an assessment of the applicant's potential for a successful career as a teacher and researcher
