Arbetsbeskrivning
The division of Combustion and Propulsion Systems at Chalmers University invites applications for a Postdoc position in fuel cell systems research. This position will be associated with a newly established national competence center on hydrogen technology and the hybrid and electric vehicle laboratory at Chalmers. Your research work will focus on computational modeling of PEMS fuel cell systems and experimental validation of model results on a fuel cell system installed in the hybrid (HiL) test facility.
Information about the research
The aim of the project is to develop and validate system models for understanding fuel cell electric vehicle powertrains, with a focus on the demands of real-driving and hybrid vehicle design. This involves CAE model development work and testing in our hybrid electric vehicle laboratory. This project will also support associated work within the hydrogen technology competence center (Tech for H2) to be established at Chalmers in 2022.
The aim is to:
(1) Develop an MEA setup in Matlab/Simulink for prototyping, evaluate available model frameworks and build an extensible FCEV system model for analysis of the propulsion system and fuel cell performance.
(2) Develop temperature and relative humidity response in the fuel cell stack level model, including integration of the cooling system and capabilities for system testing with specific driving input.
(3) Establish stack performance limits with respect to temperature and humidity profiles. Here, the detailed system model should be refined to account for testbed run conditions and enable validation tests.
At the Division of Combustion and Propulsion Systems we conduct advanced research in automotive system design, spray and heat-transfer modeling, and hydrogen technology, including fuel cell systems and clean combustion for sustainable transport. We strive to combine computational modeling and experimental validation using non-intrusive diagnostics for reacting and non-reacting flows, especially in areas related to the development of future transport solutions.
Major responsibilities
In general terms, you will work with the fuel cell research team at our department to create and validate a descriptive powertrain system model which can inform the design of FCEV runtime conditions and control. The position may also include teaching on undergraduate and master's levels as well as supervising master's and/or PhD students to a certain extent. Another important aspect involves collaboration within academia and with society at large. The position is meritorious for future research duties within academia as well as industry/the public sector.
Contract terms
Full-time temporary employment. The position is limited to a maximum of two years (1+1).
Qualifications
To qualify for the position of postdoc, you must have a doctoral degree in a relevant field; Applied Physics, Chemistry, Systems Engineering, or equivalent, completed before the starting date of employment. Experience working with fuel cell operation and fuel cell support technology (modeling and/or measurement context) is required.
To be suitable for the position you need to be a motivated person that enjoys working independently to solve complex problems. You are also expected to be somewhat accustomed to teaching, and to demonstrate good potential within research and education.
The position requires sound verbal and written communication skills in English. Swedish is not a requirement but Chalmers offers Swedish courses.
