Postdoc in Graphene thermoelectric frequency converter

Postdoc in Graphene thermoelectric frequency converter

Arbetsbeskrivning

We seek a highly motivated, self-propelling, and skilled Postdoc to take part in experimental research at Quantum Device Physics Laboratory (QDP) of the Department of Microtechnology and Nanoscience – MC2, Chalmers University of Technology.

Information about the Quantum Device Physics Laboratory
The research of QDP extends over a variety of topics of condensed matter physics using nano fabricated devices consisting of emerging 2D materials and van der Waals heterostructures, topological Dirac and Weyl materials, semiconductors, oxide heterostructures, nanomagnets, and superconductors. We combine the best of different materials to develop new concepts in device physics and applications in quantum metrology, topological quantum technology, thermoelectrics, quantum theory, radio astronomy, medical instrumentation, and spintronics.

Major responsibilities
The overall work flow will consist of fabrication of graphene sub-THz range mixers from either exfoliated- or CVD graphene using the clean-room environment instrumentation. Different material characterization methods are supposed to be used, like Raman-, Atomic-Force-, and Scanning-Electron Microscopies. Electrical characterization at different frequencies will be done at Kollberg Laboratory

The duties will include:
i) obtaining graphene (exfoliation, exfoliation + encapsulation, CVD growth, transfer of graphene)
ii) material characterization (Raman, SEM, AFM)
iii) device patterning, using e-beam, laser-beam, and ordinary photo-lithographies.
iv) measurements at > 100 GHz using mm-wave instrumentation.
v) analysis of data and writing reports/articles

Qualifications
To qualify for the position of postdoc, you must have a doctoral degree in Physics, Engineering Physics, or Electrical Engineering; the degree should generally not be older than three years. You should be comfortable with circuit design and measurements at GHz frequencies. You should be fluent in English, have good collaborative skills and ability to communicate your results in writing and presentations.

We expect the candidate to stay motivated and efficient despite setbacks and disappointments while continuing to work until non-trivial results have been achieved. The candidate is expected to learn and master high-tech equipment both in the clean room and microelectronics measurement lab. At least one published paper is expected from the candidate during the first year.

Position summary
Full-time temporary employment. The position is limited to a maximum of two years (1+1).
This position is fully financed.
