Postdoc in Industrial De-carbonization

Postdoc in Industrial De-carbonization

Arbetsbeskrivning

Your work will actively contribute to the ongoing electrification of heavy industries, phasing out their fossil fuel dependency. Changed heat transfer conditions calls for innovative and novel high temperature solutions and the necessity of new experimental equipment and modeling tools. You will work in close collaboration with industrial partners and your work will include modeling as well as experimental parts.

Project description
As an employee at the Division of Energy Technology you are an important part of a group of researchers with the general aim to optimize and reduce environmental impact of our energy use. Your part is related to electrifying industrial high temperature processes. Many industries are still emitting vast amounts of greenhouse gases and must rapidly switch their processes to lower their environmental impact. Phasing out carbon intense combustion is necessary; however, some industries still require high temperatures to produce products demanded by society. Examples of such heavy emitting industries are producers of cement and iron and steel, for which alternative heat sources can be of hydrogen combustion or electrically generated plasma.

You will take an active part in the high temperature process research group in which heat transfer models and concepts of these alternative high temperature process steps have been developed for some time. The research group are now at a stage where these models and concepts are to be experimentally validated and tested and development of experimental equipment as well as continued modeling work is required. The project is performed in direct and close collaboration with industrial partners including technology providers as well as end users.

Your work will involve instrumentation of an experimental test facility as well as planing, execution and evaluation of experimental campaigns as well as conducting modeling work with in-house developed modeling tools (Matlab). Part of the work will be based on methods of which there is extensive experience in the research group at Energy Technology, but the project will also involve development of new methodologies. Your work will be performed in collaboration with industrial partners as well as other researchers and it will be part of your responsibilities to keep contact with the project partners. An important part of your responsibilities is also to efficiently communicate your results through scientific conferences and journals as well as project meetings and reports..

Major responsibilities
The major responsibility as a postdoc will be to pursue research within the scope of the project. You are expected to develop your own scientific concepts, to write project reports and scientific manuscripts and communicate the results of your research verbally and in writing. The position also offers the possibility of teaching and taking part in supervision of Bachelor and Master students at Chalmers.

Qualifications
To qualify for this Postdoc position, you must have doctoral degree in mechanical, chemical, thermal, energy engineering or a similar relevant field. You should have experience in experimental as well as modeling work. The PhD degree should generally not be older than three years.
Excellent writing and communication skills in English are required.
