Arbetsbeskrivning
MDH in Eskilstuna and Västerås is one of Sweden?s biggest university colleges with its 14 000 students and 900 employees. It has a long tradition of cooperating with society and has entered strategic agreements with both the public and the private sector. Most study programmes fall into four main areas: economy, health and welfare, education, and technology. With its research, which often takes the form of co-production on the regional, national and global levels, MDH aims to generate useful solutions for societal development. In 1999, MDH was the world?s first university to be environmentally certified, and in 2006, it was the first higher education institution in Sweden to be certified for its work environment.
Position description
Industrial networks are often used in safety-critical applications, where the safety of humans or economical investments are at risk. In such applications, the reliability of the network is important, and the reliability requirements are often higher than what can be met by a single network instance. Redundancy is thus needed to achieve the required reliability, but this redundancy must be introduced without compromising the application latency and predictability requirements. The goals of this position are to:
? Investigate how introduction of increased reliability by spatial and temporal redundancy affect network latency and predictability.
? Find methods and mechanisms that allow for redundancy while still meeting application latency and predictability requirements. Control and management aspects of links and networks are important issues.
The goal is furthermore to integrate the solutions developed towards fault tolerant industrial networks while monitoring and controlling the networks given the application latency and predictability requirements. Furthermore, cross-fertilization between IP suite protocols and industrial automation protocols should be addressed.
Qualification requirements
The applicant is required to have a PhD degree in Computer Science or a closely related field. Experience in reliability issues for industrial wireless networks is important. Experience with software defined networking (SDN) is a plus, as well as experience with network simulators and emulators.
Assessment criteria
The work will be conducted as parts of larger collaboration projects. The applicant?s ability to interact and collaborate with different academic and industrial partners are of great importance.
Decisive importance is attached to personal suitability. We value the qualities that an even distribution of age and gender, as well as ethnic and cultural diversity, can contribute to the organization.
