The Department is running various national and European projects that focus on both fundamental and applied research. It constitutes the core of the Linnaeus University Centre for Data Intensive Sciences and Applications (DISA) that addresses data-driven methods to gain deeper knowledge and understanding in a variety of applications in engineering, science and humanities. Combined with research from application fields, such as astrophysics, engineering, linguistics, social science and eHealth, we create a unique dynamic.
The Department runs a graduate school for industrial doctoral students that focuses on applied research, addressing the big data and artificial intelligence challenges of our industry partners. Together with corresponding educational programs on Bachelor’s and Master’s level, most prominently the Master of Science in Engineering, we constitute the complete knowledge environment “Smarter Systems”.
The department of Computer Science in Kalmar is building a new Internet of Things lab environment. This project is focused on helping small and medium sized companies in Kalmar and Växjö region to initiate and start up new business ideas with IoT-applications. The focus is on applied research, with practical IoT-solutions, in close collaboration between industry and academia. We need two Postdocs that are motivated to work in several real projects.

Extent and period: 100%, 2021-09-01 – 2023-02-28
Duties
Duties consist mainly of the following:
• Working with applied research in IoT, together with small and medium sized companies in the region Kalmar and Växjö.
• Present intermediate and final research results at international conferences and workshops and publish them in conference proceedings and journals.
• Close collaboration with the other members in our interdisciplinary research environment as well as domain experts.
Qualifications
The Postdoc position requires a PhD degree in Computer Science or an equivalent degree. The application should include CV, degrees (translated to English or Swedish), the PhD thesis, publication list and other relevant documents. References with contact information and up to two letters of recommendation may be provided. The doctorate shall have been obtained no longer than three years before the expiration date of the application.
Eligibility for this position also requires that the doctoral thesis has a focus on IoT technologies, such as, embedded systems, IoT-networking, databases, cloud and machine learning applied to several different application areas.
The application should also include a research plan (max four pages) with the following content:
• A title that should clearly state what the intended work could be about
• Abstract / Summary (summary of the research plan, max ten lines)
• Research area (a brief description of the problem area, possible theoretical perspectives, and empirical and theoretical motives for the study).
• Research questions (present well-defined questions for the study)
• Methods (describe what methods the study is intended to implement)
• Ethical considerations (describe the ethical considerations that may be relevant)
Note that the submitted research plan will only be used to assess the applicant's ability to structure and formulate scientific arguments.
