Arbetsbeskrivning
Do you want to work in an interdisciplinary project with a prospective future energy technology with exiting possibilities? Large-scale energy production from biomass allow for co-generation of heat, power and production of biomaterial and biofules, environmental services with net negative greenhouse gas emissions. This project focuses on assessing the value of biofuel ues in different contexts, such as its usefulness in energy systems of different scales and impact on climate and other environmental key indicators.
Information about the research
Negative greenhouse gas emissions will be needed to fulfill global and national emission targets. Bio-Energy Carbon Capture and Storage (BECCS) has been discussed as a possible Negative Emission Technology (NET) for many years. This position gives you a change to be a part of this journey in the front line of research.
The Division of Energy and Materials at the department of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering includes Inorganic Industrial Materials Recycling, Inorganic Environmental Chemistry and Nuclear Chemistry. Environmental Chemistry works with applications of Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS), Oxide Chemistry, high temperature corrosion, and Theoretical Chemistry involving advanced modeling. Nuclear Chemistry focuses on research for applications in the nuclear industry: novel nuclear fuels and transmutation as well as research relating to accidents and final repositories. The Industrial Materials Recycling group focuses mainly on the recycling of metals including rare earth metals. The common factor is development and used of inorganic materials in energy applications. This research of the division is necessary to manage the earth's resources and provide better options for the future.
The Division of Energy Technology at the department of Space, Earth and Environment conducts research and offers education mainly in energy technology and energy systems. The research focuses on combustion and gasification of biomass, technologies for carbon dioxide avoidance, energy transformation and sustainable energy systems. A considerable part of the research is experimental, and the division have built up and are maintaining unique experimental facilities, such as for example Chalmers research boiler. Systems-level projects with in-depth research on energy transformation processes is also conducted at the division.
You will work in an upcoming project funded mainly by Chalmers Energy Area of Advance. The research in the field and the supervision will be shared between the division Energy and Material and Energy Technology. This joint group make up the world leading researchers in the CO2-capture technology Chemical Looping-Combustion, CLC. And by using biofuels in CLC, CO2 can permanently be removed from the atmosphere and thereby not only avoiding but reversing global warming. You will from January 2021 work in this shared environment but be employed at Energy and Materials.
Main responsibilities
As post-doc your main responsibility is to conduct research that assesses future for biofuel use in CLC from an environmental and economic point-of-view. You are expected to work with a high degree of independence, while still being capable of close collaboration with other researchers and external partners when needed. You should be able to communicate scientific results to different stakeholders, both orally at meetings and conferences and in written form as scientific articles.
Contract terms
Full-time temporary employment. The position is limited to a maximum of two years (1+1).
