BUILDING A SUPERCONDUCTING QUANTUM COMPUTER
Within the Wallenberg Center for Quantum Technology at Chalmers (see below), we will build a superconducting quantum computer. As a part of this effort we are currently seeking a post-doc to increase our team modeling the superconducting circuits at the physical level. The aim is to develop and maintain a detailed model of the growing hardware architecture. The work will include close collaboration with experimentalists as well as advanced mathematical and numerical modelling. The work will be performed in the context of both WACQT and OpenSuperQ, a joint European effort to build a superconducting quantum computer within the European Flagship on Quantum Technology.
ABOUT THE WALLENBERG CENTER FOR QUANTUM TECHNOLOGY – WACQT
The Wallenberg Centre for Quantum Technology (WACQT) is a 12-year initiative aimed to bring Swedish academia and industry to the forefront of Quantum Technology (QT). The four pillars of QT are: Quantum Computing, Quantum Simulation, Quantum Communication and Quantum Sensing. The centre is funded mainly by the Knut and Alice Wallenberg Foundations with additional contributions from the participating universities and industry. At Chalmers, the focus will be to build a superconducting quantum computer/simulator and to explore useful applications of quantum computing/simulation.
ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT OF MICROTECHNOLOGY AND NANOSCIENCE (MC2)
At the Applied Quantum Physics Laboratory (AQP lab), we work on theoretical aspects of future high-performance nano-electronic systems. Our research covers a broad spectrum of problems, everything from the fundamental problems to the very applied ones.
We work in close collaboration with experimental groups, both at MC2 and at other universities. Our major research interests cover quantum information processing with superconducting electronics, mesoscopic superconductivity and transport in nanostructures, molecular electronics, and graphene electronics.
The MC2 Department houses a state-of-the-art Nanofabrication Laboratory cleanroom facility. The QDP/QT Labs has the most modern equipment for experiments at low temperatures (millikelvins) and with microwaves.
Major responsibilities
Your major responsibility as postdoc in this project is to work with the numerical modeling of the growing superconducting hardware, both with digital transmon-based 2D circuits as well as 3D-cavity-based architectures.
This postdoc position is aimed at theoretical and numerical modeling of a superconducting quantum computer at the physical level. The work will be performed in a theory team, in close collaboration with the ongoing experimental work in WACQT and OpenSuperQ, a joint European effort to build a superconducting quantum computer within the European Flagship on Quantum Technology.
Position summary
Full-time temporary employment. The position is limited to a maximum of two years (1+1).
