Information about the project
The Department of Space, Earth and Environment contains five divisions, with research and education spanning from global challenges related to sustainability and energy supply to astronomy and space sciences. We are seeking an enthusiastic scholar to join a dynamic research group within the department. The research topics of the division cover a broad range of topics including modelling of clouds and aerosol-cloud interactions with different type of models and satellite retrievals of cloud, rain and precipitation. The position will have a multifaceted research focus (depending on the skills and wish of the candidate) with the overall emphasis on cloud-microphysics of mixed-phase clouds or aerosol-cloud interactions. The project will make use of the models (global climate model, large-eddy simulation model), model data, satellite data and knowledge present at the division.
Major responsibilities
Depending on the profile of the candidate the position includes modelling of mixed-phase clouds or aerosol-cloud interactions (using a global climate model or a large-eddy simulation model), data analysis (CMIP5 etc.), model development (aerosol chemistry and aerosol modules) or model verification using satellite data. During the first year of the position there is the possibility for the scholar to take a leading role in modelling of a field-campaign focused on understanding the persistence of mixed-phase clouds.
Your major responsibility as postdoc is to perform your own research in a research group. The position also includes the possibility to co-supervise master's and/or PhD students to a certain extent and teaching in alignment with the candidate.
The successful applicant will be expected to lead the work in close collaboration with the other members of the group and partner institutes.
Contract terms
Full-time temporary employment. The position is initially limited to two years.
Qualifications
To qualify for the position, you need a doctoral degree in atmospheric sciences, chemistry, physics, geosciences and similar. You are expected to demonstrate good potential within research. Experience with programming, modelling and big data analysis is expected. Verbal and written communication skills are required, Swedish is not required but Chalmers offers Swedish courses.
