Postdoc in natural resource economics: Modelling of forestry systems

Arbetsbeskrivning

Department of Economics
At the Department of Economics, research and teaching are conducted in the subjects economics and business studies. The department has master's and bachelor programs in economics, and a PhD program. Priority areas in economics are 1) environment and natural resources and 2) agricultural economics.
Duties:
The environmental economics group within the department of economics – see https://www.slu.se/env-econ – is looking for a post-doctoral researcher to boost our research team. The successful applicant will contribute to the economic analysis in a four-year project studying the potential of clear-cut free forestry systems to deliver benefits in terms of forest growth, carbon storage, and biodiversity. The project is funded by Formas and coordinated by Professor Björn Lindahl. Professor Rob Hart of the Department of Economics is in charge of the relevant workpackage. The appointee will also be expected to continue working on their research in the pipeline, as well as contributing to the research environment within the environmental economics group. There will also be opportunities to teach. The position as a postdoctoral researcher implies at least 80 percent research.

Qualifications:
Applicants must have completed a PhD no more than three years before the application deadline, or be expecting to complete their PhD by spring/summer 2022. Demonstrated competence in the mathematical  and computational methods necessary to analyse optimal forestry policy is essential, as is a genuine interest in natural resource and environmental economics. A PhD in economics is advantageous, but (for instance) candidates with a PhD in mathematics may be qualified if they can demonstrate interest in the field and a desire to learn. The ability to work constructively in a small group is essential.

Place of work:
Uppsala.

Form of employment:
Post-doctoral employment for 3 years, with an opportunity to extend for a further year by mutual agreement.

Extent:
100%

Start date:
By mutual agreement, no later than September 2022.

Application:
We welcome your application in English, including a CV, a cover letter of no more than 2 pages, the names of two referees who we can contact, and a research paper showcasing your ability and interests, no later than 1 March 2022. To apply, please use the button below.
