The Department of Biomedical and Clinical Sciences is one of the university’s largest departments, with operations mainly in the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences.
Our aim is to engage in medical and biomedical education and research of high international standing. We are now looking to appoint a Postdoc in Neurobiology.
Work assignments
You will be working in a research lab in the Division of Neurobiology. Your future work assignments will include design, acquisition and analysis of data from behavioural rodent experiments within the field of somatosensation.
Supervision of undergraduate and graduate students will also be part of your duties.
As postdoc, you will principally carry out research. A certain amount of teaching may be part of your duties, up to a maximum of 20% of working hours.

You will be employed in the Division of Neurobiology.
Qualifications
To be qualified to take employment as postdoc, you must have been awarded a doctoral degree or have a foreign degree that is deemed to be equivalent to a doctoral degree. This degree must have been awarded at the latest by the point at which LiU makes its decision to employ you.
It is considered advantageous if your doctoral degree is no older than three years at application deadline for this job. If there are special reasons for having an older doctoral degree – such as taking statutory leave – then these may be taken into consideration.
Your PhD should be in Medicine, Neuroscience or a closely related field. We are looking for someone who has a strong research interest in neuroscience, with a special focus on somatosensation and behavioural neuroscience. You should have experience in designing, implementing, performing and analysing rodent behavioural assays, including assays of social behaviour, real-time place preference and facial expression analysis. Experience with optogenetics and acute pain models in rodents is also required. You should demonstrate capability for independent work and flexibility across different disciplines.
Strong interpersonal skills are highly valued, since you will be collaborating with other members of the group with different backgrounds, communication styles and level of expertise. You should be familiar with dissemination of scientific research and have a good publication record in journals and attended conferences. Experience in student supervision is meriting. Very good knowledge of both written and spoken English is a requirement. Great emphasis will be placed on personal qualities and suitability.
About this job
This post is a temporary contract of two years with the possibility of extension up to a total maximum of three years. The position as a postdoc is full-time.
