Postdoc in Plastics Recycling

Postdoc in Plastics Recycling

Arbetsbeskrivning

The Division of Engineering Materials, Department of Industrial and Material Science now has an open one-year postdoc position. The work planned for aims at improving the technological possibilities for increasing the volumes of post-consumer plastics recycling in society. This is to be supported by a better and more detailed understanding of the preparation processes needed for plastics recycling, also a better connection between the recycling processes and the resulting functional properties of products.

Project description
The research field for this position is on recycling of polymeric materials, more precisely on materials recycling of plastics packaging waste. The scope of interest will be on the whole recycling process, including separation, sorting, washing, drying, upgrading, compounding and granulation. The focus of the research will however be on the interrelation of washing parameters, the melt processing and the properties of produced samples. All the main type of packaging plastics waste are to be studied.

You will work closely with a team of a PhD student and senior scientists on plastics recycling, in cooperation with large scale plastics sorting facility.

Major responsibilities
Your major responsibility as postdoc is to perform your own research in a research group. The work will mostly include experimental work, analysis and reporting. The position is meritorious for future research duties within academia as well as industry/the public sector.

Contract tems
Full-time temporary employment. The position is limited to a one year engagement, with starting and ending dates to be negotiated. Possibilities to extend the one-year engagement will be explored. Candidates should be prepared to start as soon as possible, not later than in April.

Qualifications
The successful candidate for this position has a strong background in polymer science, holding a PhD with a focus on thermoplastic melt-processing.The PhD degree should generally not be older than three years. We would also like you to have a working knowledge on the influence of composition and structure om the polymeric on the functional properties expected of the material produced. You should have a personal ability to work in a team towards multiple specific goals.

Department of Industrial and Materials Science
The main competencies at the Department of Industrial and Materials Science are found in the areas of: Human-Technology Interaction | Form and Function | Modeling and Simulation | Product Development | Material | Production and in the interaction between these areas. The research develops the industrial process, from need to finished product while creating added value. To combine skills throughout the whole chain distinguishes the department both nationally and internationally. Here we gather internationally prominent researchers, in dynamic and outstanding research environments, as well as in national and international research networks.
